DHARMA: DECODING THE EPICS FOR A MEANINGFUL LIFE (REVIEW)

The book is an exchange of views/conversations/pedagogy between the son-in-law, his wife, and her parents about the epics namely, Mahabharata and Ramayana. It also talks about the Amish’s Shiva trilogy (Disclaimer: don’t read this book if you wish to read the Shiva trilogy because this book has major disclosers). The conversation is between two couples, one traditional at their core but in balance with the modern world, and another modern couple openly accepting the traditional approach or more so the traditional way of thinking. This book puts forth the frame of seeing the characters in the epic as qualities of a human, the author has stripped his way skillfully through his style of storytelling and constantly keeps the reader’s mind at work. The frame/filter used in the book makes it easy to understand the morals/takeaways behind the structuring of the epics. It is “to read” for those who look for understanding the epics of Bharath.

The main thing out of the set of morals I have taken from this book is that: “One’s character, the core one and the one which a person carries in his/her journey of life have to be understood by themselves in its true nature. And the most important thing is that one needs to cultivate their inner elements to survive or sustain oneself in this journey by constantly balancing the situations in oneself and around oneself.”
