When confronted with the question of where I see myself in a decade, traditional responses often paint a picture of career aspirations, personal achievements, and ambitious goals. Yet, for those of us who have chosen to navigate life’s journey with a more flexible approach, the answer may not neatly fit into a pre-determined framework.
For individuals like myself, who embrace the ebb and flow of life, the response to such a question may appear as a blank space – not because of a lack of vision or ambition, but rather a recognition of the inherent unpredictability of the future. Instead of rigidly outlining a path, I find myself drawn to a more introspective exploration.
To the readers who have stumbled upon this blog, I offer a different perspective, because when pondering upon the question of where I see myself in 10 years, the answer takes on a more philosophical hue.

I relate to this point of view alot.
Growing up in a traditional Asian family – and I use this term not to generalize but to reflect a common experience – often entails a meticulously planned roadmap for the future, leaving little room for individual exploration and autonomy.
But as I’ve journeyed through life, I’ve come to realize that sometimes, sticking too rigidly to a plan can hold you back. I used to be someone who planned everything meticulously and followed those plans religiously. However, I soon learned that life doesn’t always go according to plan. Sometimes, you find yourself at a crossroads where the path you imagined isn’t the best fit anymore.
For me, embracing flexibility has been key. It’s about being open to changing course when necessary, even if it means letting go of the original plan. I’ve learned that there’s beauty in embracing the unexpected and being willing to explore new opportunities that come my way. While it can be scary to deviate from what’s expected of you, I’ve found that taking those detours often leads to exciting discoveries and personal growth. It’s about finding a balance between honoring tradition and carving out your own path.
Here’s a poem which reflect the poetic version of the blog-
In the chambers of my mind, I craft my plans, Every detail scripted with meticulous hands. Yet as I tread the path I've laid, I discover twists where plans cascade. For in the journey's winding span, New paths emerge, unseen by plan. A left turn whispers, softly near, Promising pathways crystal clear. In this labyrinth of desires and needs, Adaptability is the seed that feeds. Though goals may shift, and pathways blur, The essence of purpose remains pure. So let plans evolve, with grace to mend, Embrace the journey, around each bend. For in the change, true beauty gleams, In the dance between plans and dreams.
I’ve learned that there’s immense value in embracing the unexpected, in allowing ourselves the freedom to explore new avenues and opportunities. While it may be daunting to veer off the beaten path, it’s often within those detours that we discover our true passions and potential for growth.
In essence, my journey towards self-discovery and fulfillment is not confined to a predetermined timeline or set of goals. It’s a continuous process of introspection, adaptation, and growth, guided by the principles of resilience and openness to change. As I navigate the uncertainties of the future, I remain steadfast in my commitment to embracing the ebb and flow of life, knowing that each twist and turn holds the potential for new experiences and profound insights.
